May 2 – Caring Ministries Team – 7 PM in the Parish House. Our meeting begins and ends with prayer. We then do a brief Bible Study and check-in. We will have follow-up on licensing and background checks, Radical Hospitality, Safe Church training at the Diocesan level and more. The Caring Ministries Team is an umbrella group that incorporates Healing Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, and Prayer Ministry. If you interested in any of these important ministries or would simply like to learn more about them, please come Tuesday night. All are welcome!

May 7 – Quarterly Meeting of the Parish – following 10 AM worship. The focus of our time together will be period of open mic time to share what’s on your mind, an initial conversation and exploration of starting small groups at St. Paul’s and a short preview of our next Quarterly Meeting July 9th which will be a time of reflection and dreaming.

May 8 – Bible Study, 7 PM in the Parish House – all are welcome. We will be focusing on  Acts 7:55-60, 1 Peter 2:2-10, and John 14:1-14. Each meeting is a self-contained unit.

May 14 - REMINDER - UTO (United Thank Offering) In-Gathering - The UTO Ingathering is now going to be "gathered in" twice a year.  These In-gatherings represent our thanksgiving for the blessing and graces extended to us through God.  These coins really add up if we discipline ourselves to practice doing this. Above all it helps keep our minds alert to the blessings going on in our lives and minds everyday.  Last year well over $1,000,000 was given out as UTO grants for world projects - one to Rock Point here in Vermont.

May 14 – Brookside Eucharistic Service – Our next Eucharist Service at Brookside is Sunday, May 14th, 2-2:30. Volunteers should arrive at 1:45 to help set up the dining room and welcome residents to our service. Our last Brookside service this spring will be June 11th with no services in July and August.  Brookside services will resume on the second Sunday in September at 2-2:30.

May 15th - Listen Community Dinner - May 15th will be our next Listen Community Dinner. Sign up sheet with menu will be posted by May 5th.  We will need cooks to prepare main course and dessert. We will also need 6-8 volunteers to help in the Listen Kitchen 3:30-5:45. The remaining Listen Dinners for 2017 are July 17, September 18, and November 20th.

Announcing our New St. Paul’s Pledge Secretary - With deep and heartfelt thanks for the many years that Dee Roberts has served as the pledge secretary at St. Paul’s, the Vestry accepted her resignation this year, and has officially appointed David Davison (after asking, and his acceptance, of course!) to serve in that position.  Please address any questions about your pledge to David:  (802) 359-3078 davech.davison@gmail.com.

Parish Discretionary Fund next week – On Sunday, May 7, the loose offering and any checks marked Discretionary Fund in the memo is given to the Parish Discretionary Fund. This fund is used to help meet the needs of people in our area during difficult times in their lives. The funds are generally used to help with electric bills or car repairs, rent or securing a security deposit for a family. We are finally able to start distributing funds again. The need continues to be extremely high with requests coming in almost every day. Please be as generous as you are able. This is an important ministry of our Parish. Thank you, Scott

Prayers of the People Reminder – This is the last Sunday of the month and the list of names in our Prayers of the People will be deleted and we will start fresh next month. Please submit your prayers requests throughout the month and they will be added to our list on a weekly basis. Please send those requests to Holly Hall or announcements.spc@gmail.com . Please remember at the end of the month to resubmit any names on your prayer list to Holly Hall so that they are included in the next month’s prayers. Thank you, Scott.

Good Neighhbor Health Clinic Dinners – we need your help!

     Who:    St. Paul’s Church commits to

     What:   Provide dinner for 8-10 volunteer staff (entrée and side dishes OR soup,

                       bread & salad OR a 1 dish meal: really whatever you might prepare at home!)

     When:  On the 4th Monday of each month, delivered by 5pm,

     Where: To the Clinic in downtown White River Junction.

     How:    Please sign up to provide a meal, either on your own, or as a team with others!

The Upper Valley Haven Food Shelf needs your help – Thanks for your generosity last week! The Top 5 needs at the Haven Food Shelf this week are peanut butter, pasta sauce, tuna, soup and canned tomatoes (diced/whole/stewed).

June 17 and 18 River of Life Pilgrimage in White River – Save the dates for fun and educational events near and on the river June 17 and 18. Details are being ironed out but will include presentations and fun at the Montshire Museum, paddling on the river at Kilowatt Park, worship with Bishops from across New England. It should be a great couple of days so plan on partaking! More information to follow. Keep alert!!

Caring for Our Most Vulnerable Children - Do you want to contribute to the well-being of the children in your community? Consider volunteering as a court-appointed children’s advocate – become a Guardian ad Litem.  There are many children in the Family Court system because of abuse, neglect, delinquency or custody disputes.Volunteering to become a Guardian ad Litem means YOU can be a voice for a child and speak to their best interests during the court process - helping get them to a safe, permanent home quickly. Comprehensive training and ongoing support are provided. Next 3 day training is May 3, 10, 17 at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, VT. April 4 - Lenten Series – Having Conversations that Matter – Tuesday, April 4th our Lenten Series will continue – Having Conversations that Matter from 6:30-8:00 in the Parish Hall. We will gather for discussion and conversation. Each session is independent of the others. Hope you will join us!

April 8 - Pysanky – Ukranian Easter Eggs - A workshop for making pysanky – wax-resist dyed eggs – will be offered 2-5pm Saturday April 8th in the Parish House, upstairs. April 9 - Brookside Nursing Home Eucharist Service- Our April service will be April 9th, 2-2:30.  Volunteers come at 1:45 to help set up the room. We will also have Service on May 14th and June 11th. We will continue services at Brookside Nursing Home in September.

April 24 – Bible Study – Due to Holy Week and Easter we will skip our normal April 10 gathering. We will meet next on Monday April 24 at 7 PM in the parish House. The readings for the week are Acts 2:14a,36-41, 1 Peter 1:17-23, and Luke 24:13-35 . All are Welcome !

May 14 - REMINDER - UTO (United Thank Offering) In-Gathering - The UTO Ingathering is now going to be "gathered in" twice a year.  These In-gatherings represent our thanksgiving for the blessing and graces extended to us through God.  These coins really add up if we discipline ourselves to practice doing this. Above all it helps keep our minds alert to the blessings going on in our lives and minds everyday.  Last year well over $1,000,000 was given out as UTO grants for world projects - one to Rock Point here in Vermont.

Wood Needed - Kathryn's Girls Scout troop is looking for pile wood (1/2 inch to 3/4 inch) and 2x4’s for a project for their Silver award.  They are making collection boxes for the Plainfield food shelve.  They are trying to make it a green project by using leftovers from other projects.  Please contact Marge Brennan if you have any leftovers. 

Maundy Thursday Soup and Bread Dinner??? – Are you interested in having a simple soup and bread dinner (6 PM) on Thursday, April 13, before the Maundy Thursday service at 7 PM. If so, please gather with Pam Hanson at coffee hour to coordinate the event. This dinner will only happen if you come together and organize it. (set-up, clean-up, organize the food etc.)

Good Friday Offering – now through Good Friday – We will be collecting toward the Good Friday Offering from Sunday, March 26 until Good Friday, April 14. This offering is collected across the Episcopal Church to support the four dioceses in the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. The money collected is used to promote peace and mutual understanding through pastoral care, health care, and educational programs throughout the region. June 17 and 18 River of Life Pilgrimage in White River – Save the dates for fun and educational events near and on the river June 17 and 18. Details are being ironed out but will include presentations and fun at the Montshire Museum, paddling on the river at Kilowatt Park, worship with Bishops from across New England. Contemplative Quiet Prayer and Meditation - is held in our sanctuary 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Caring for Our Most Vulnerable Children - Do you want to contribute to the well-being of the children in your community? Consider volunteering as a court-appointed children’s advocate – become a Guardian ad Litem.  There are many children in the Family Court system because of abuse, neglect, delinquency or custody disputes.Volunteering to become a Guardian ad Litem means YOU can be a voice for a child and speak to their best interests during the court process - helping get them to a safe, permanent home quickly. Comprehensive training and ongoing support are provided. Next 3 day training is May 3, 10, 17 at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, VT.  APRIL 1 - Altar Guild Spring Cleaning is Saturday April 1 starting at 9:00 AM.  Coffee and Munchkins will be available.        NOTE - we will be changing the Altar after church on the Second.

April 2 - Parish Discretionary Fund  – On Sunday, April 2, the loose offering and any checks marked Discretionary Fund in the memo is given to the Parish Discretionary Fund. This fund is used to help meet the needs of people in our area during difficult times in their lives. The funds are generally used to help with electric bills or car repairs, rent or securing a security deposit for a family. We are finally able to start distributing funds again. The need continues to be extremely high with requests coming in almost every day. Please be as generous as you are able. This is an important ministry of our Parish. Thank you, Scott

April 4 - Lenten Series – Having Conversations that Matter – Tuesday, April 4th our Lenten Series will continue – Having Conversations that Matter from 6:30-8:00 in the Parish Hall. We will gather for discussion and conversation. Each session is independent of the others. Hope you will join us!

Listen Community Dinner - Our Listen Community Dinner went very well thanks to the outstanding volunteers and all those who cooked a casserole and baked cookies!  The numbers eating dinner was low yet, we had ample food with many take home meals with very small portions of casserole left and no cookies. The remaining Listen Community Dinners in 2017 are: May 15th, July 17th, September 18th, and November 20th

Weston Priory - Weston Priory is a quiet restorative place    of peace and acceptance. Anyone is welcome to attend their services. Please check Weston Priory website for days Brothers are on Sabbath or on retreat.

Holly plans to attend 11:30 service two Saturdays, March 25 and April 8th. If you would like to go to either service, please let her know.  We would meet at St Paul's at 9:15 and return close to 3pm.

Vestry Retreat UPDATE– At out Vestry retreat March 3-4, we continued to address the charge from Annual Meeting regarding Refugees and Immigration. A couple of comments came in with regard to the statement and suggestions were made. The updated statement is:

"As Christians and members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, White River Junction, we welcome all people into our midst as we would welcome Jesus Christ himself. We take our Baptismal Covenant seriously: we do our best to continue in the apostles' teachings and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread and in prayer; we work to persevere in resisting evil, and when we fall into sin, we repent and return to the Lord; we do our best to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ; we seek opportunities to serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves; and we strive for justice and peace among all people, and endeavor to respect the dignity of every human being.                        bread & salad OR a 1 dish meal: really whatever you might prepare at home!)

     When:  On the 4th Monday of each month, delivered by 5pm,

     Where: To the Clinic in downtown White River Junction.

     How:    Please sign up to provide a meal, either on your own, or as a team with others!

Listen Community Dinner-

Our Listen Community Dinner went very well thanks to the outstanding volunteers and all those who cooked a casserole and baked cookies!  The numbers eating dinner was low yet, we had ample food with many take home meals with very small portions of casserole left and no cookies.  

The remaining Listen Community Dinners in  2017 are: May 15th, July 17th, September 18th, and November 20th

Weston Priory-

Weston Priory is a quiet restorative place    of peace and acceptance. Anyone is welcome to attend their services. Please check Weston Priory website for days Brothers are on Sabbath or on retreat.

Holly plans to attend 11:30 service two Saturdays, March 25 and April 8th. If you would like to go to either service, please let her know.  We would meet at St Paul's at 9:15 and return close to 3pm.

Vestry Retreat UPDATE– At out Vestry retreat last weekend, March 3-4, we continued address the charge form Annual Meeting regarding Refugees and Immigration. As an initial response, the vestry decided to make the following statement, based on a prior statement Scott had included on his former parish’s website. The statement is:

“As Christians and members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, White River Junction, we welcome all people into our midst as we would welcome Jesus Christ himself. We take our Baptismal Covenant seriously; we do our best to continue in the apostle’s teachings and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers; we work to persevere in resisting evil and when we fall into sin we repent and return to the Lord; we do our best to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ; we strive to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves; and we strive for justice and peace among all people, and endeavor to respect the dignity of every human being. And to that end we embrace all people without regard to race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, disabilities or age.”

CONTEMPLATIVE QUIET Prayer and Meditation- Throughout Lent, our sanctuary will be open 5:30-6:30 on March 29th, April 5th and April 12th. Contemplative prayer and meditation will also be on April 19th, the third Wednesday of the month. All are welcome for time of peace and stability as you pray and meditate. Contemplative Prayer and Meditation will continue on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the months ahead.

Our menu will be chicken vegetable casserole and chocolate chip cookies. Feel free to use your own recipe or you may use my recipe. Please leave out peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Sign up sheet is posted on bulletin in the Parish Hall. Food can be delivered to church March 19th or to Listen kitchen March 20th between 2 and 3:30pm. 

     We need one more volunteer to sign up and help Monday, March 20th, 3-6pm in Listen Kitchen.

     We will be serving between 100-120 people on March 20th. Thank you to those who have already signed up and

          we need  more people to sign up this Sunday, 12th. We are serving higher numbers of people. Invite

          neighbors and  friends to help with cooking.

     We welcome anyone who would like to give  financial support in purchasing food items. You may give money

          to any one listed on the sign up sheet  or, you may give me the money donation to be distributed or saved to

          use purchasing food for  our next Listen Dinner. 

     A group of cooks are welcome to use our church kitchen Saturday, March 18th or after Sunday service on the

         19th.

February 11 – Knit and Purl Retreat Day - COME ONE, COME ALL to our winter Retreat at Parish House, Saturday, February 11th, 10-5.. • Laying on of Hands – On the first Sunday of every month those wishing to receive laying on our hands are invited to gather at the Baptismal Font (just as you entered the church) immediately after you have received communion.
• Leadership Team Meeting – every Wednesday 9:30-11:30am
• Worship Team meets – 2nd Thursday of the month in the Church Library at 4pm, all are welcome to attend.

• Having Difficult Conversations About Race.  Wednesdays, Noon – 2 p.m. (Wednesdays Nov. 16, Dec. 14, Jan. 18th at the Howe Library in Hanover.)  This series of conversations grew out of an OSHER course, and is open to everyone. Lenten Series – Having Conversations that Matter – Tuesday in Lent 6:30-8:00 in the Parish Hall. March 7^th, 14^th, 21^st, 28^th, and April 4^th – mark you r calendar today!

February 5 - Parish Discretionary Fund next week – On the first Sunday of each month the loose offering and any checks marked discretionary fund in the memo is given to the Parish Discretionary Fund. This fund is used to help meet the needs of people in our area during difficult times in their lives. The funds are generally used to help with electric bills or car repairs, rent or securing a security deposit for a family. We are finally able to start distributing funds again. The need continues to be extremely high with requests coming in almost every day. Please be as generous as you are able. This is an important ministry of our Parish. Thank you, Scott

February 5 - NVC/ Non-Violent Communication - There will be a Non-Violent Communication Class, 9am-4pm   February 5th, at Briggs Opera House. If you are interested, please contact Holly to register. 

February 5 - The AD Church - We are very excited about the upcoming AD Church this Sunday, February 5^th at 1:30 pm.  For those that are not aware, the AD Church is a worship service designed specifically for families with Alzheimer’s/ dementia. [I have posted more information below. ] This service is graciously hosted by Rev. Silfies and the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ (http://www.vtcucc.org/churches/Hartford.html )  which is located at  1721 Maple street/ Rt. 14, Hartford Village, north of White River Junction, South of Sharon, VT.  If you have any questions, please contact us at mbyers@terracecommunities.com or call at 802-280-1910 and ask for Mick.  We hope to see you and your family there!   

February 7 – Lenten Series Planning meeting - 10 AM - There will be a planning meeting for the Lenten series, ’Having Conversations That Matter’, on Tuesday, February 7th, at 10 AM in the Parish House.  Diane, Amy and Katy are convening the meeting to further develop the draft for the next meetings of the co-sponsoring groups.  Please consider joining us -- if you'd like to think about ground rules, readings, good discussion questions, ideas for worship, how to make people feel welcome, etc.  Send an email if you'd like to share thoughts, materials, or suggestions, but cannot come.

February 7 –Women’s Potluck 6-8 - Women of the parish are invited to a potluck at Kate Townsend’s home from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, February 7. The plan is for a “faith” (no “assigned” dishes, bring whatever you want) women’s potluck (to be mostly social!) at Kate Townsend’s home on Tuesday, February 7 from 6-8. February 9 - Mindfulness Basic Stress Release - Women's Resource Center will offer a free introduction to MBSR class 9-3 February 9th at Women's Resource Center. If you are interested, please call Women's Resource Center to register. An eight week MBST will be taught in the spring.

February 11 – Knit and Purl Retreat Day - Knit and Purl Fellowship will hold our annual Retreat on February 11th, 10-5pm at our Parish House.  Beading, knitting, sewing, coloring, cross stitch or any other hand craft is welcome.  Come enjoy a day of fellowship. We will have hot drinks, lunch, and munchies throughout the day as we visit and share for a short visit or all day.  Neighbors, friends and family are welcome. 

February 12 – Conserned about Racism meeting – after church in the parish house. We will be discussing our Upcoming Lenten Series. All are welcome!

February 12 - Brookside Nursing Home Ecumenical Service - Our next Brookside Service will be February 12. Volunteers arrive 1:45 and service is 2-2:30. If you have questions or want to volunteer, please contact Holly

February 13 - Bible Study – Our next gathering is Monday, February, at 7 PM in the Parish House. Our discussions last about an hour. Each session is stand-alone so come when you can. All are welcome! Here are the readings we will be discussing: Leviticus 19:1-2,9-18, 1 Corinthians 3:10-11,16-23, and Matthew 5:38-48. We meet on the 2^nd and 4^th Monday of the month. 

March 14 - Caring Ministry Meeting - Our next meeting will be March 14th, 7pm at the Parish House

March 20 - Listen Community Dinner - March 20th will be our first Listen Community Dinner for 90-100 people. CONTEMPLATIVE QUIET Prayer and Meditation- is held in St. Paul's Sanctuary the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month   5:30 to  6:30.  Come when you can and stay as long as you want.  If you are not able to get to the sanctuary, take what time you have from wherever you are for prayer and meditation.  For more information about Contemplative Quiet Prayer and Meditation, please contact Diana or Holly

Annual Reports Due by January 21 - The Annual Report is an important record of our life together at St. Paul's, and also serves as a guide to our ministries and fellowship events.  Everyone who has chaired a committee or a ministry is responsible for submitting an annual report.  Paula Stevens has (again) agreed to compile the reports into a master document that will be distributed electronically before the Annual Meeting on Saturday, January 28.  Please send reports to Paula at paulajstevens@aol.com no later than Saturday, January 21.  If you have any questions, email or call Paula at 802 296-3123.

march 20 LISTEN COMMUNITY Dinner - Our first Listen Community Dinner will be Monday, March 20th.  Holly needs someone to help planning the meal and also a few people to help with last minute preparing and serving of the meal from 3-6pm at the Listen Center. If you have the interest and the time, please contact Holly.  St. Paul's will be serving five meals beginning in March 20th. we provide meals every other month. The 2017 dates are: March 20th, May 15th, July 17th, September 18th and November 20th.  This outreach ministry in our community is appreciated by those who come to eat at LISTEN. EFM and Noah’s Ark - As I proceeded through the curriculum of year one in my Education for Ministry studies I was fascinated with its mythology. Pete LaPre's discussions of the Exodus were very enlightening and spurred on my curiosity into things biblical that weren't quite like lore, myths, and mysticism portrayed it. For example, in my early days I was a competitive sailor and, quite naturally, I was attracted to Noah's ark. You know the traditional story and icon.
